Setting up Taxes with the NetSuite Connector
As an administrator, use this article to turn on NetSuite tax sync so Emburse Spend can import tax profiles and export tax on approved expenses.
This article applies to accounts that use the Emburse Connector on the Accounting Integration page. To confirm which integration you use, go to the Accounting Integration page. If the Connect action displays Connect via Emburse Connector, or your connected accounting integration description states that your account is syncing via Emburse Connector, use this article.
If the Emburse Connector path does not apply to your account, see Connect NetSuite to Emburse Spend.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, confirm the following:
- You have an Administrator role in NetSuite.
- You have an Administrator role in Emburse Spend.
- Tax support is enabled on your organization account.
- You have connected the Emburse NetSuite Connector. See Get Started with the Emburse NetSuite Connector.
NetSuite Tax Sync
Tax sync applies only with the Emburse NetSuite Connector. Go to Accounting Integration. If NetSuite is not connected through this connector, tax data does not sync. eExport tax data manually. See Export Your Expense Data (CSV and PDF).
NetSuite supports multiple tax types and tax codes. Emburse Spend imports the tax profiles and codes configured in NetSuite so you can enable the combinations that apply to each currency. When at least one expense line in an export batch includes tax, every line in that batch must include tax. Select a Default Zero Tax Profile as the fallback for lines that do not contain tax.
Tax profile capture, synchronization, and export behavior may differ for organizations outside the United States. Review regional tax requirements before you export expenses to NetSuite. See Tax Support in Get Started with the Emburse NetSuite Connector.
Tax field mapping and synchronization options on the Expenses page may also differ for organizations outside the United States. See Configure the Emburse NetSuite Connector for export settings that affect how tax posts to NetSuite.
Configure Tax with the NetSuite Connector
Complete these steps to pull tax data from NetSuite and export tax on approved expenses.
- In Emburse Spend, go to Company Settings > Accounting Integration.
- Select CONFIGURE SETTINGS.
- On the General page, under Taxes, turn on Sync Taxes.
- Select Refresh, then select a Default Zero Tax Profile.
- Select Check Your Configuration, then select Save and Close.

Review Imported Tax Profiles
After a successful import, the Tax Profiles page is available so you can set the currency and turn on the tax codes that apply.
- Go to Company Settings > Tax Profiles. The list shows each imported profile, including status, name, applicable taxes, and currency. ADD TAX PROFILE is unavailable for profiles imported from the Emburse Connector.
- Select the edit icon on the imported profile.
- Select Currency Code, turn on only the taxes that apply, then select Save.
Imported identity fields, including the profile name, are managed by the NetSuite accounting system and cannot be edited.
On an expense, locate the Tax Profile field. The field displays only when the expense currency matches a tax profile. For manual tax profile setup and end-user submission steps, see Tax Support.
